Media
Criticism, Praise, Reviews, Etc. (Winnipeg)
Before the Canada Palestine
Film Festival, sub-titled "Images of Occupation & Resistance
in Israel-Palestine" even opened, there was an avalanche of
media coverage, beginning with a B'nai Brith press release attack,
and a subsequent B'nai Brith press conference. Four press
releases, two press conferences, four newspaper articles, daily
telephone complaints, lots of supportive feedback, two published
film reviews, and about a dozen radio, television, and newsprint
interviews later, the festival, which launched in Winnipeg (Sept.
24-26) at the local Cinematheque theatre, has certainly generated
a lot of hooplah. According to representatives from the Winnipeg
Film Group which runs the theatre, they are receiving three to four
complaints per day, and a major donor has withdrawn financial support
from Winnipeg's premiere film production institution, simply because
they have allowed marginal Palestinian and dissident Israeli films
to be shown in their theatre. If you value free expression
or are concerned about human rights violations and justice more
generally, please consider joining the Film Group, and sending them
praise and donations as a result of this festival, to help offset
their lost support.
