"Dispatches: The
Killing Zone" by Channel 4 News, U.K. (2003)
Documentary - English
& Arabic with English sub-titles
Approx. Length: 52 mins.
Narration by: Sandra Jordan
Description:
With the world’s
attention fixed on the war in Iraq, Dispatches reporter Sandra Jordan
and producer Rodrigo Vasquez risk their lives to reveal the shocking
level of daily violence in the Gaza Strip. The Killing Zone
documents the lives of ordinary Palestinians subsisting under this
violence, enduring an occupation that does not discriminate between
militants and civilians, and which has also killed Western peace
activists like Rachel Corrie, Tom Hurndall and award-winning British
film-maker James Miller. In true investigative journalism
style, Jordan interviews Israeli government and military spokespersons
about the killings of Corrie, Hurndall, and Miller, and juxtaposes
their statements against eyewitness interviews. She skillfully
demolishes Israeli PR claims that any of these internationals was
complicit in their own death, or that they were caught in an ambiguous
"crossfire."
This is an important film, and one
of the few documentaries to depict the true motivations and actions
of indivuduals involved in the International Solidarity Movement
(ISM).
